Who is this course for?

This course is for editors, proofreaders, indexers, fact-checkers, translators, writers, and anyone else pursuing a freelance career in the publishing industry.

Do I need the book Networking for Freelance Editors?

  • This course is a companion to the book Networking for Freelance Editors
  • The ebook is included in the course fee (you'll receive a link for a free download).
  • The book is the textbook for this course, so you must have it before beginning the course.

How long does it take to complete this course?

This course is designed to be completed in four weeks. We follow a weekly agenda and assignment schedule, and you'll get the most out of the course if you can commit a minimum of two hours per week to the lessons and engaging with fellow students.

How long will I have access to the course materials for?

We understand that life happens and that schedules shift. That's why you'll have access to the materials for two weeks after the course ends, for a total of six weeks (including the assignment space and course discussion space).

PLUS, after six weeks, we'll give you free six-month access to the self-paced version of the course materials (does not include live events or feedback) so that you can continue to work on the lessons.

Does it matter how long I've been editing for?

Not at all. This course doesn't teach editing skills. It teaches you how to network in our industry and shows you a step-by-step process for building the network that will support you at every point of your career.

If I miss a group coaching session, will it be recorded?

Yes, live group sessions will be recorded, and we'll also provide a transcript.

Captioning is available on all video sessions.

How long will it take to get access to the course?

You'll receive immediate access to the entire course on the start date.

You'd have access to the Networking Studio online community as soon as you purchase the course and complete the online registration.

What if I prefer to work on my own?

We understand! Some of us prefer to work on our own--at least at first, when we're learning something new. Others have schedules that make it a challenge to complete a course in four weeks.
If that's the case, you might prefer the self-paced version of this course.

Do you have a refund policy?

We work hard to make sure that students know what to expect with our approach to networking and our course materials (and we make a lot of our teaching available for free in various mediums), so we do not offer a refund policy for this or any of our course.

BUT, if you sign up for the course and let us know a minimum of 3 days prior to the posted start date that you cannot attend the session you signed up for, we will allow you to roll your tuition over to the next open session. Please contact us directly if you have questions.

  • Lezlee says:

This was an excellent adjunct to the book Networking for Freelance Editors! It was great to have fellow freelance editors in a group to interact with and build networks along the way. The worksheets are solid gold!

  • Tiffiny says:

This course helped me to see networking in a different (and far more positive) way. It guided me to more concrete goals that I'm confident will set my business in the right direction with gaining clients. I've already taken steps based on what I've learned and am optimistic based on early results.

  • Leila says:

I absolutely enjoyed taking this networking course! The lessons were highly engaging and motivated me to
create more achievable goals for my editing business. However, my favorite part was the personalized
feedback from the instructors because they were thoughtful and creative. I highly recommend this course to
anyone who needs help building their business and figuring out how they can network.

  • Ayshea says:

Linda and Brittany have thorough knowledge of the challenges freelance editors face when building their networks. They have thought of every scenario and experienced many of them personally. Their course will meet you wherever you are in your freelance career. It will help you reimagine what networking is and sketch out your new approach to it.

  • Randy says:

This is a very well-structured and well-paced workshop based on the book, “Networking for Freelance Editors: Practical Strategies for Networking Success,” which the workshop instructors co-wrote. In the workshop, as well as in the book, the authors/instructors are very generous with their great advice about why networking is important, what networking really is about, specific networking tactics, and how to go about being a better networker -- which could help grow your freelance business. I learned a lot from the workshop and the book, and I highly recommend both.

  • Leslie says:

Is networking scary to you? Me too! Linda and Brittany make networking manageable and do an excellent
job of modeling what good networking is. This course will make you think hard about your brand and how
you want to portray the work you do, so that you can gain more clients. I left the course feeling like I had a
game plan for not only networking, but setting a good foundation for my business.
